Delmar, Mariner Energy Establish New World Record

Broussard, LA. -- Delmar Systems, Inc. partnered with Mariner Energy, Inc. and Global Marine Drilling Company to set yet another world record by mooring the semi-submersible Glomar Celtic Sea in a water depth of 5,610' at the Gulf of Mexico drilling location. This surpasses the previous record by 142'. The deepest anchor for the Mariner location was set in 6,136' of water.

The new record was established in Mississippi Canyon 773 when Delmar and Mariner conventionally moored the Celtic Sea using the rig's eight, high-holding power, drag embedment anchors. The mooring operation was completed in an efficient 35-hour period using the Seacor Marine anchor handling vessels, Vanguard and Jordan. This entailed 30 hours to deploy the rig's eight mooring systems and five additional hours to reset one mooring system.

This new world record comes just weeks after Delmar established another new mooring record for preset mooring systems using suction anchors.

Delmar and Shell Deepwater Development Inc., moored the semi-submersible Transocean Marianas in 6,940' using a pre-set suction anchor system. The semi-taut system is comprised of eight 12-foot diameter by 60-foot long, 85-ton suction anchors embedded in the sea floor. Each anchor is attached to 10,000' of 3 ¾" wire rope with the specially designed Delmar Sub Sea Connector.

"Delmar continues to develop and execute the most innovative efficient mooring solutions to reach the deep and ultra deep waters here in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world," said Matt Smith, Delmar Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. "Since 1968, Delmar has been recognized as a leader in serving the offshore oil and gas industry and will continue this commitment as we enter the new millennium. We pride ourselves on this reputation and the opportunity it affords us to participate with other companies in order to accomplish world record milestones."
